Our November speaker is Dr. Melissa Leal, the Chair of the Ethnic Studies Department at Sierra College. She has over 20 years of experience working in Education, specifically with American Indian/Alaska Native students and Tribal Communities. Melissa is an enrolled member of Ohlone/Costanoan Esselen Nation. Dr. Leal earned her undergraduate degree in Ethnic Studies from Sac State and her Ph.D. In Native American Studies from UC Davis.

Dr. Leal will describe the local American Indian/Alaska Native community, including a brief history of California policies and historical events that impacted California Indians. A Q&A session will follow.
